[Testo disponibile solo in inglese] Sound Studies Forum (SSF) is the first interdisciplinary research group dedicated to sound studies in Italy. Founded with the aim of promoting the critical study of sound in its cultural, social, technological, and aesthetic dimensions, SSF brings together researchers and practitioners from different fields—music, visual arts, anthropology, cultural studies, philosophy, media studies, urban planning, architecture—creating a common space in which sound becomes the subject of cross-disciplinary investigation.
The Forum operates as a national platform dedicated to sharing resources, methodologies, practices, and theoretical perspectives, promoting dialogue between academic and non-academic research, artistic practices, and pedagogical processes. Through seminars, conferences, thematic working groups, collaborative projects, and exhibitions, SSF explores the role of sound in contemporary cultural transformations, questioning its political, ecological, social, and technological implications. Research topics include, but are not limited to, ecologies of listening, soundscape studies, sound art, auditory cultures, sound technologies, audio archives, radio art, voice studies, listening practices, sound design, urban sound studies, and feminist and decolonial approaches to sound.
The Sound Studies Forum offers a meeting ground for those who think, listen, and work through sound — scholars, artists, practitioners, and curious listeners alike. It seeks to nurture a diverse and open community, one that develops shared approaches and inventive forms of knowledge grounded in the many ways sound engages, unsettles, and shapes contemporary experience.
