Don't you recall?
[Testo disponibile solo in inglese] Don’t you recall? is a auudiovisual performance produced by electroacoustic musician nara is neus and a visual artist sasha smirnova. It's a journey captured by machine vision and guided by immersive ambient sounds.

The performance explores the topic of 3D scanning, inviting viewers to immerse into an audio-visual worlds captured in 3D. Combined with CGI landscapes and sound recorded in the same locations as 3D scans, the work aims to mix fiction and reality, opening up a conversation about the definition of digital reproductions of our surroundings.

So far the performance has been presented at:
- Mira Festival in Barcelona (2021)
- Keroxen, Tenerife (2021)

The piece was also featured in Fact Magazine, January edition 2022. Link: https://www.factmag.com/2022/01/12/sasha-smirnova-nara-is-neus-dont-you-recall/

Cosa portano gli artisti

The core technology used for this performance is a 3D scanning. The democratisation of 3D scanning technology brought new creative possibilities. At the same time, it has popularised capturing of reality as means of entertainment. For example, a 3D scanning app Polycam allows to upload scans to the cloud and share it with app users. In the same way as social media, the content sharing of this app is based on likes and followers. Following this development, widely available 3D scanning could change how we create and share memories. If so, would the space reproduced in 3D be seen as just copy of reality? Or would it have values and characteristics to be categorised as new places altogether?

With this performance, we aim to approach artistically the aforementioned questions playing with memories, space, and definition of 3D-scanned reproductions of reality.

In terms of sound, we mis both acoustic and electronic production working with several synth, electric guitar, and harmonium. While, alien yet familiar visuals transport viewers to different realities, the warm guitar, synth, and harmonium sounds add organic touch to the over-digital visual experience.
